Starting the Journey in Barcelona
There’s a reason we love kicking off this route in Barcelona: the city hands you sea and city life in the same afternoon. We usually pick up travelers right in the center, load the Mercedes minivan, and let them decide whether to linger on Barceloneta’s sand or push straight on toward Nova Icaria. Either way, the Mediterranean is right there, glinting at the edge of the boulevards, and it sets the tone for everything that follows.
Discovering Costa Brava
Once we’re out of Barcelona, the coast road north starts throwing surprises at you — rocky inlets, pine-covered headlands, water so clear it looks fake. Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar each have their own character, one sleepier and walled-in with medieval stone, the other livelier after dark, and because we’re driving you door-to-door, you can ask to slow down or skip ahead as the mood strikes.
If quiet is what you’re after, the coves around Begur deliver it in spades. We’re happy to park up for a couple of hours here so you can swim, snorkel, or just sit with your feet in the water — this is exactly the kind of detour a fixed-schedule tour can’t offer but a private Eurotrip can.
Exploring the French Riviera
Cross the border and the whole atmosphere shifts — more polish, more glamour, the same brilliant sea. Cannes trades on its festival glitz but still has stretches of sand where you can just relax, while Nice gives you that famous curve of the Promenade des Anglais, packed with cyclists, walkers, and sunbathers making the most of the bay.
We always suggest carving out time for Saint-Tropez too. It’s earned its reputation as a magnet for the see-and-be-seen crowd, but strip that away and you’ve still got gorgeous beaches and a harbor worth wandering after the sun goes down.
Unveiling the Italian Coastline
Crossing into Italy, the Ligurian coast turns things dramatic — cliffs plunging into the sea, fishing villages stacked in impossible colors. Cinque Terre is the obvious highlight, and we know plenty of guests who’d happily spend a whole day working the coastal paths between villages, camera in hand, Mediterranean glittering below.
Further south the scenery gets even bolder along the Amalfi Coast, where hairpin roads reveal Positano in stages — that cascade of pastel houses tumbling toward the water is one of those views that’s genuinely better in person than in any photo.
Reaching Naples
Naples closes out the trip, and it’s a fitting finale: gritty, historic, endlessly alive, with some of the region’s best beaches practically at its doorstep. A quick hop from the city gets you to Capri, where dramatic cliffs and glamorous little beach clubs make for a perfect last swim of the trip.
